Studio Closing
With a heavy heart I am closing the existentiae art studio in Krozinger Str. 13, Freiburg-Weingarten by the end of November 2026.
The journey of existentiae art studio began in March 2025 as I was still employed as a biostatistician. It was in the space of now “klangteppich”; a huge empty room with one occupied corner. As I have always been, I was at that time so passionate in a new technique: goldsmithing and was eager to start my own journey right after learning the basics from Herwarth Malzy, a great person. My first project was wedding rings for me and my partner.
In January 2026 I left my office job and became a full-time artist. In April 2026 I officially opened the existentiae art studio for public. On those three days I welcomed visitors and exhibited my first mini collection of existentiae art “Eye Opening”. Many familiar faces came by to wish me luck on my journey. A week after that I held the very first weekend workshop which was attended by four familiar faces. It went very well and the participants were happy with their creation. Until now I am thankful to them for the amazing experience.
The months after that were rather quiet. One participant joined a weekend workshop by herself. By that time I noticed that this might not be a sustainable project. Thus, I created “komono” in the hope of becoming more steady. Unfortunately, the decision (or the implementation) was not successful.
Therefore, I focused on planning and working for my very first solo exhibition “Rise of the Red Sun” which took place in August 2026. The exhibition went pretty well and I am grateful for the discussions and feedbacks. At first I thought having my works exhibited would be the highlight. Surprise surprise, to me it was actually the valuable discussions and feedbacks from visitors who were mostly strangers to me at that time. They helped me getting to know myself better through my artworks. Shout out to the exhibition team: Alex, Max, Mel, Uli, Ott, Isi, Kai, Sina, and Michael; without these people I would not have had a great exhibition.
Oh well, now we’ve come to the sentimental part: I decided to give up my existentiae art studio in Krozinger Str. 13, Freiburg-Weingarten by the end of November 2026 for it is not financially sustainable. I sadly did not manage to cover the studio expenses with workshops and “komono”. Furthermore, I don’t think the current ideas will work if I would wait another year. This is a difficult decision but I think it is wise to step back for now.
I am going to learn from the past encounters, feedbacks, mistakes, experiences to maybe someday somewhere in Freiburg open existentiae art studio again. In the meantime I will continue creating fabric arts from our apartment kitchen for I have learned: my arts live as long as I breath.
